In a press conference organized by the East African Community Secretariat General, on February 08th, 2020, in Bujumbura, Burundi, it was announced that the East African Community will deploy an Observation Mission Team to supervise the upcoming Burundi 2020 elections which are slated for May this year.
The EAC Secretary-General, Liberat Mpfumukeko, assured the region and the international community that Burundi elections will be fair, inclusive and peaceful.
The East African Community has pledged to support credible, free, fair and peaceful elections, Mpfumukeko added.
Mfumukeko said that the East African Community has already dispatched a group of experts to make consultations with Burundi official and Burundi’s electoral commission in order to make sure that the upcoming elections will be peaceful and inclusive.
